The Delhi government on Wednesday declared two-day mourningin the national capital following the sudden demise of former chief ministerand political stalwart Sushma Swaraj. The announcement was made onmicro blogging site Twitter by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
“Delhi govt will observe two days state mourning as a markof respect in the memory of former Chief Minister & senior leader respectedSushma Swaraj ji,” wrote Sisodia in a tweet on Wednesday morning.Sisodia’stweet was retweeted by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who said, “Sushmaji was former CM of Delhi. Delhi will pay its respects by observing statemourning for two days.”The Haryana government also declared a two-day statemourning.
President Ram Nath Kovind, leaders from across party lines,including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, former primeminister Manmohan Singh, among others paid their last respects to the BJPstalwart at her residence in Janpath area of the national capital.
Prime Minister Modi got emotional when he talked to SushmaSwaraj’s husband Swaraj Kaushal and daughter Bansuri Swaraj to offer hiscondolences.
Later, speaking to mediapersons, Shah referred to SushmaSwaraj as a “shining star”. Shah said that the void created in Indian politicsby the sudden demise of the BJP leader cannot be filled. He said that all BJPworkers, including him, were in grief.
